World Book Day

Share a book at bedtime

The theme for our World Book Day celebrations was Share A Book At Bedtime. The majority of the children came dressed in pyjamas and nightwear- those that didn't came dressed as favourite book characters- including James Bond with a licence to, erm, read!

World Book Day was also designed to inspire children and parents, and encourage them to share books, and demonstrate that adults too read for enjoyment.

Children in Years 5 & 6 reviewed books and shared what they think with other children. As well as this they will be creating a story to read for children in Key Stage 1, based on a popular tale- but with an added twist. This was inspired by the book The Wolf That Cried Boy.

Meeting an author

Kate O'Hearn

As part of our celebrations for World Book Day, the author Kate O'Hearn visited the school and entertained children in Key Stage 2 by reading extracts from one of her books, Shadow of the Dragon. She also talked about what it was like to be an author and the problems of finding a suitable publisher. A lively question and answer session followed. On what it was like to be an author she replied: "I get paid for daydreaming. When I write a character I become that character!" A splendid time was guaranteed for all!

Xtreme Reading!

As part of World Book Day the children were invited to photograph themselves reading in very unusual places. Here are some of their very imaginative ideas!

Recycling children is always a good idea!

Something's not right!

Look behind you!

Who am I?

I'm up here!

This really is not a good idea!

Peepo!

Yes it's me!
