Tudor grand designs: pathway to success

On Saturday the school was one of only two primary schools to enter a competition called Pathways to Construction in Alexandra Park in Hastings. The other entrants were all secondary schools. And to cap it all, we were awarded third prize and presented with a cheque for £75! A fantastic job done by Daniel, Connie, Chloe, Thomas, Hannah and Solly!

Children in Mrs Davies' class had been studying the Tudors and had made model Tudor houses as an extended project. The school was invited to take part in the competition by a local architect, who teamed the school up with a local contractor.

The design brief was to build a large scale Tudor house using materials such as oak, plaster, locally sourced wood and reeds. Work started in school on Friday and the house was completed in Alexandra Park during Saturday morning. The children did their own sawing, plastering and joining and worked brilliantly as a team to build the house in time for the judging. For us to be awarded a prize was a fantastic achievement. A big thank you must go to Doug Hick and Derek Rankin for all their support.
