Collins Cup- Group stage

The Playden Panthers finished runners up in the group stage of the Collins Cup, despite a gallant effort and remaining unbeaten!

Having first seen Sandown win a close game 3-2, Playden took to the field to play hosts Guestling. The 0-0 scoreline hides the attacking spirit of both sides and a thunderous effort by Joe Cooke, hit from distance and dipping towards the goal, was the pick of the numerous Playden efforts.
The goalkeeper, Oliver Skinner, had to be sharp as well as Guestling looked to try and get the winner. Thomas Hugget, Louis Williams and Isaac Wall - all playing for the first time- worked hard to find space and push Playden forward but to no avail.

A short break followed and Playden took to the field knowing only a win would see them through. The Panther's had a changed line up, including Milo Kendall in midfield who put pressure on the defenders while helping out with his own defence, and they set about trying to boss the game. The passing and movement improved as the first half wore on and Charlie Banks hit the target several times only for the Sandown keeper to deny him. Chester Morley played out wide and played in some nice passes to the middle. The defensive partnership of Oliver Rhys-Jones and Solly Cooke stood the test but also showed adept at creating options for the rest of the team. Harry Rhys-Jones came on in the second half and showed some great touches on the ball as he tried to work an opening for the goal. Time and again Playden came close to the winner.
Oliver Skinner had to be at his best, pulling an amazing reflex save from a sharp effort. As Playden pushed further forward he was further tested, until eventually the sheer number of opposition players saw them scramble a goal from close range.
Playden rallied and finally scored the goal they deserved, but no time was left for a further attempt to score.
Led by captain Monty Hart, who worked across the field and was a fantastic captain, the team did their school proud.

Congratulations to Sandown and good luck for the rest of the tournament. Everyone would like to thank Guestling school for hosting the matches and to the ref.
