Round 1 triumph for Panthers.
Thursday 26 November 2009
The Playden Panthers won the first round tie of the Small Schools competition at Winchelsea to earn a place in the East Sussex Round in February.
Twice Winchelsea took the lead in the first half, with goals from Monty Hart and Charlie Banks restoring parity, the Playden winner came from Charlie Banks halfway through the second half. Playden held on for the 3-2 win and although they will have felt unlucky not to have scored more had to defend well to stave off continued attack and pressure from Winchelsea who saw one effort come of the top of the crossbar.
The 7-a-side football match was the first stage of a national competition, which culminates in a tournament against schools from across the country. Previously the final tournament has been held at Wembley. To qualify as a small school, there must be no more than 100 pupils in Key Stage 2.
Congratulations to the team; Charlie Banks, Ieuan Cooke, Joe Cooke, Solly Cooke, Monty Hart, Milo Kendall, Chester Morley, Oliver Rhys-Jones and Oliver Skinner. The boys would like to thank the parents for support and Winchelsea school for hosting the match as well as Derek, who volunteered to referee part of the game.
